Layout with Bible Reading Plan

December 22, 2011 at 10:31 AM

A Logos user recently e-mailed with this scenario:

He created a Bible Reading Plan that appears in the ribbon of the Home Page. When he clicks the link for the day’s reading, a Passage Guide and Explorer open along with his Bible. This is more than he wants. He just wants to see his Bible and a daily devotional for today’s reading. Here’s what I told him:

Rather than using the ribbon of the Home Page create a custom Layout containing just the panels you want open. Then create a Shortcut to open the Layout.

  • Create a Bible Reading Plan on the File menu
  • Choose the panel menu on the newly created plan and select Dock this panel to place this plan in the main Logos window
  • Click a link in the plan to open your Bible
  • Open your desired daily devotional
  • Choose the panel menu on the devotional and select Show table of contents
  • Click Title Page in the table of contents pane (which opens the devotional to the title page with a link for Today’s Reading)
  • Close the table of contents pane
  • Arrange the panels on the screen as you desire
  • Choose the Layouts menu
  • Click the edit (pencil) icon next to the time stamp under the Now Snapshot
  • Name the Layout
  • Return to the Layouts menu and drag the Named Layout to the Shortcuts Bar

Each day when you’re ready for today’s Bible reading and daily devotion click the new shortcut icon which opens the reading plan, daily devotional, and Bible. Click the Bible reference link in the reading Plan to move the Bible to that location. Click Today’s Reading on the devotional’s title page to move the resource to today’s date!

For an added bonus, click the Parallel resources set icon on the devotional’s toolbar to access more daily devotionals for today’s date!
