Use a Passage List to Lookup Cross References

July 26, 2011 at 11:36 AM

This past week I’ve been writing a study guide for the book, The Red Sea Rules, authored by my good friend Rob Morgan. In preparation I had to read a lot of Word docs and PDFs that contained biblical cross references without the actual text. Below is how Logos helped me quickly lookup all those cross references. Make sure to try this as you’re reading websites, files out side of Logos, and so on.

  • Choose File | Passage List
  • A Passage List opens but don’t worry about naming it since it’s just a temporary file
  • Select (highlight) text in the Word doc or PDF or on the website that contains the biblical references you want to look up
  • Press Ctrl + C OR Cmd + C (Mac) to copy that text to the clipboard
  • On the Passage List, click the Add drop down list
  • In the drop down list, click …clipboard
  • Your verses are displayed from the Bible(s) you’ve designated on the list
  • When you’re finished reading these verses press Ctrl + A OR Cmd + A (Mac) to select all the verses in the list
  • Press Delete on the keyboard to remove all the verses from the list
  • Repeat the above steps to display additional verses from your document or website

I used this trick for a solid week as I developed the study guide. I can’t begin to tell you how much time this saved me compared to looking up each one individually. File this tip away to especially help you as you read articles from the web.
