A Logos user recently asked me, "Morris, I have created a layout containing daily devotionals and placed it on the shortcuts bar. How do I get it to open to today's reading?"

Here's how to set up such a layout:

• Open your favorite daily devotionals on the screen and arrange them as you like
• Choose the panel menu on each resource and select the same Link set A for each
• Choose the panel menu again on one of the devotionals and select Show table of contents
• Click Title Page (or Contents) in the contents pane that opens
• Notice the link called Today's Reading on the title page
• Choose the Layouts menu and name the Now snapshot
• Close and reopen the Layouts menu
• Drag the Named Devotional Layout to the Shortcuts bar

When you click the new icon on the Shortcuts bar, your devotional layout opens. Just click the Today's Reading link to see all of the calendar devotionals jump to the reading for today!

Logos Bible Software contains many resources and tools to help us study the Bible. To effectively use these tools, however, we need to first know how to study the Bible. For example, Logos helps us discover the historical context of a passage, but we need to know what historical context is and why it's important.
