Tip of the Month: "Favoritize"

Recently a pastor called with this situation:

Like many pastors he was planning his preaching calendar weeks in advance. As he was studying or reading in Libronix he would come across information that would perhaps be helpful to his sermon several weeks from now. He asked how he could save and index that material so it would be available when he needed it.

I suggested he use the Favorites feature creating various folders and then saving the location of important information in the appropriate folder. Heres how it works:

Choose Favorites | Organize Favorites

Click New Folder

Name the Folder something like: "Sermons for October 2008"

Click OK

Click to the left of newly created October folder so that it is no longer selected (highlighted)

Click New Folder

Name the Folder something like: "Sermons for November 2008"

Click OK

Repeat these steps for additional folders

Now click the October folder

Click New Folder

Name the Folder something like: "Sermon for October 5"

Click OK

Repeat these steps for additional sub-folders

You can tell you are creating a hierarchical set of folders in which you can easily organize information.

Now imagine as youre studying this week you come across a comment, illustration, quote, etc. that would be perfect for your sermon on October 12. Heres what you do:

Keep the Libronix resource open to exactly what the information is located
Choose Favorites | Add to Favorites
Click on the folder or sub-folder in which you want to Favoritize this location
Type anything you wish in the Title box to help you identify it
Click OK

Whenever you want to jump to this location just choose Favorites and navigate to your location from the list of folders.

Book of the Month: The Biblical World in Pictures

A question I am often asked is: What pictures of the Holy Land are available in the Libronix format? Currently the best resource is The Biblical World in Pictures containing hundreds of images that can be used in PowerPoint and presentation software like EasyWorship.

While the images are stunning, finding just the right one can be difficult. For example, lets say youre looking for an image related to Jericho. Since the book is not topically indexed it cant be searched with the Topic Browser. In addition, the book not only contains images but also descriptions and explanations of the pictures. Thus, if you use the Basic Search to execute a word search for Jericho youll receive over 700 hits! There are not 700 pictures of Jericho in the resource. You just located the word Jericho.

While there is no easy way to search just the images here is a way that is not too difficult. The extra steps will be rewarded with beautiful pictures.

Open The Biblical World in Pictures (this resource is not in any Logos base collection and must be purchased separately)

Choose Search | Basic Search

Select The Biblical World in Pictures from the In drop down list

Type this query in the Search box: Complete List of Images Jericho

Click Search

The resource contains a page called Complete List of Images which lists by title all of the pictures in the book. This search query is performing an AND search looking for all of the articles containing both the phrase Complete List of Images and the word Jericho

When the Search Results window opens, click Aligned Hits in Context to list all of the hits. Click on each hit one at a time to go through the resource until you find the picture you want.

After you do this a time or two it will be very painless and quick. Enjoy!
