Tip of the Month: Biblical People on the Toolbar
I recently received an e-mail from a Logos user asking if it is possible to place the Biblical People automated report on the toolbar for easy access. As he pointed out to me this report is not listed separately in the toolbar Commands
for the Category Bible. Here is an easy workaround:
set a bookmark for Biblical People and place the bookmark on the toolbar.
- Open the Biblical People report by choosing Tools > Bible Data > Biblical People
Set the bookmark by choosing Favorites > Bookmarks > Set > 1-9
Right click on the toolbar and select Customize
Click New (If you want to add this command to an existing toolbar, select the name of the Toolbar and then Modify)
Type a Toolbar Name
Select the, Category, Bookmark from the drop down list
Set the Command Go To Bookmark 1-9 (Of course make sure it matches the number you set for the Biblical People bookmark)
Click Add
Click OK
Click OK
Now click the new bookmark icon on the toolbar to open the Biblical People report anytime you like!
Book of the Month: An Exposition on Prayer in the Bible
I have not had the privilege to be a student of Dr. Jim Rosscup. Like many though, I have been blessed by his monumental work An Exposition on Prayer in the Bible
. This incredible resource is a "commentary" on all of the prayers and verses about prayer in the Bible. I have never seen anything like this before. Rather than repeat all of the accolades you can read them at the Logos website .
I do, however, want to offer some suggestions on how the get the most out of this valuable set.
This resource is versified and is treated like a commentary, which means:
- It will show up on the Commentary section of the Passage Guide
- It will surface in Parallel Resources as you cycle through your commentaries with the left and right arrow keys
Here are a couple of features you may not realize though. Dr. Rosscup gives introductory material for each book of the Bible highlighting the book's emphasis on prayer. Also, at the end of the resource he presents a Topical Index on Prayer listing verses about every subject imaginable relating to prayer. This one section is very unique and invaluable.
There is no "fancy" way to access this material, so here is what you do:
- Open An Exposition on Prayer from My Library
- Click the Toggle Contents Pane icon on the resource's toolbar
- Resize the table of contents pane on the left so you can easily read each section title
- Expand one of the volumes, revealing the names of each book of the Bible
- Expand one of the books of the Bible, revealing a section called Introduction
- Click Introduction to jump to the background information for that book
Again, this is not typical introductory material you will see in a commentary or study Bible. The information here spotlights the role of prayer in this particular book. You will love it.
Also, while you are in the content pane:
- Scroll to the bottom of the pane
- Expand the Topical Index on Prayer
- Click on one of the letters A-Z to open the index
For example, click on M and you will see topics such as "Meekness in prayer", "Messiah in prayer", "Mighty things God can do",etc. Spend some time exploring the prayer topics that Dr. Rosscup lists. This material is absolutely amazing
. I have never seen this detailed of an index for prayer. You may want to set a bookmark for this index so you can return here quickly.
Be sure to order from Logos your copy of this much needed resource.
