Tip of the Month: Illustrations Note File
I recently received an e-mail with this question:
Preachers are always in search of the perfect illustration. I've been collecting stuff from various sources and dumping them into my notes. My question is: Can I make my own customized "Illustration Bible" with my collected illustrations embedded into the various texts?
Excellent idea and question! Here's what to do:
- Create a new note file at File>New>Note File
- Name the file something like Illustration Bible
- Open any Bible to a verse for which you have an illustration
- Right click on any word in the verse
- From the right menu select Add a Note > Add a Note to Illustration Bible > Add a Note to "the verse"
- This creates a note in the note file and adds a note indicator in the Bible
- Paste the illustration in the note file
- Click the Note Color icon on the note file toolbar and select a color for the note indicator in the Bible (use the same color for all illustrations and pick something other than the yellow default color)
Now when you open any Bible to that verse and see that color note indicator next to the verse, you know you have an illustration for it! Just click the indicator to jump straight to the illustration.
Book of the Month: Christian History & Biography Magazine
As you probably well know Logos is producing e-books at a phenomenal pace: Bibles, commentaries, classics, you name it. Also they're releasing magazines and periodicals, including one of my favorites: Christian History and Biography
. Years ago I subscribed to this magazine, dutifully read each issue, and placed them on a book shelf (where to my embarrassment they usually collected dust). Now, however, these incredible resources are available in the Libronix format.
In case you're unfamiliar with this magazine, each issue is normally devoted to a person, movement, or subject. The issue is then loaded with articles, images, timelines, maps, etc., all geared toward that theme. There's usually information and graphics that don't normally appear in church history books.
If you don't already own this resource, please add it to your library or put it on your Christmas wish list. After installing it, I suggest creating a collection (
Tools>Define Collections) with all the issues. Now use the Basic Search dialog to search for word, phrases, people, doctrines, etc.

Mac Tip of the Month: Search an Author's Books from My Library
You can easily search all of the books by a specific author right from My Library. Here's how:
- Open My Library
- Set the Arrange By to Author
- In the Find box, type an author's last name like Chambers
- In the display area, right click on the author's name and select Search All These Resources
- The search dialog opens ready to search the books
- Type a search query in the Search box
- Click Search and there's everything that author says about that word, phrase, verse, etc.
