For years I have referred to the Passage Guide as a research assistant. Basically we're saying to this report, Please search my library for information about this specific passage. Then present your findings to me in a nice orderly fashion. The Passage Guide more than obliges as it lists commentaries, cross reference books, maps, hymnals, etc.

If you're like me, however, you don't necessarily use the books in the order they're displayed on the Passage Guide. For example, commentaries appear first, but normally I use them last in my Bible study.

Also, if you have a lot of books, the Passage Guide may take longer than you want to complete its searches.

If you can relate, you may like this little hint.

Notice next to each section of the Passage Guide there's a little + or - sign. The + means collapsed or  "search delayed". The - means expanded or "search deployed".

Open the Passage Guide and begin generating the report. As each section appears click the - next to its title. This will stop the search for that section.

Once you've stopped the search in all sections look at the section titles. Now decide which section you want to use first in your Bible study. Parallel Passages? If so, click the + next to its title and the search begins for that section. When you're finished reading that area, click the - to collapse it again.Repeat this process as you make your way through the report.

Remember to click the - sign next to each section before closing the Passage Guide. This way, when you use the report next time, it will open with all sections already collapsed.
