♦ Counseling Books
I recently received an e-mail asking for the best ways to access information in counseling books.
So this month I’ll pass along a few suggestions in this area.
First, allow me to mention a few counseling books that Logos makes available.
The Baker Encyclopedia of Psychology and Counseling (Second Edition) is an excellent one volume, quick reference book.
It contains over 1400 entries that are topically indexed for easy access.
This is a very helpful resource especially for pastors and lay counselors who need to refresh themselves regarding personality issues.
The Biblical Counseling Library is a huge collection of 30 volumes from different authors covering a variety of issues.
Several books from popular authors Jay Adams and Jerry Bridges are included.
This one collection will certainly beef up your library in the counseling section.

♦ Baker Encyclopedia on the Toolbar
Since the Baker Encyclopedia of Psychology and Counseling (Baker) is topically indexed according to the titles of the articles it'ss very easy to locate information in it.
This resource is designed to be a quick reference desk book (the kind of print book you would keep close at hand on your desk or credenza).
I, therefore, suggest you place this book on a Libronix toolbar.
Here’s how:
- Right click on a Libronix toolbar
- Select Customize
- Click New
- Name the toolbar something like Open Books Toolbar
- Select the Category, Special from the drop down list
- Select the Command, Open (Resource) from the list
- Click Add
- Click Details
- Click Change on the Resource line
- Type Baker in the Find box
- Click Baker Encyclopedia of Psychology and Counseling (this of course assumes you have purchased this resource)
- Click OK
- Click OK
- Click Close
You’ll notice an orange book icon now appears in the toolbar area.
Click this icon anytime you need to access Baker.
Now with the book open you can type a topic in its current location box and press the Enter key to jump there.
For example type Conscience in the box and press Enter.
If your subject is not in the book you may want to open Baker’s table of contents by clicking the Contents Pane icon (second icon from the right) on the book’s toolbar.
Now click any subject in the contents to jump to that location.
By placing the book on the toolbar you have quick access to it anytime you need it.
Make sure to follow these steps for any other books your want on the toolbar.

♦ Couseling Library in a Collection
If you purchase the Biblical Counseling Library (Library), I would certainly place all 30 volumes in a Collection so you can easily search the books.
Follow these steps to create your own collection or see below to download the collection I’ve created for you.
- Choose Tools | Define Collections
- Click New
- Name the collection something like Counseling Books Search Collection
- In the Find box you’ll need to locate each of the 30 volumes and click Add
- Here are the titles of the 30 books: Competent to Counsel, The Christian Counselor's Manual, A Theology of Christian Counseling, Why Christians Can't Trust Psychology, Totally Sufficient, True Spirituality, Trusting God, Those Ugly Emotions , The Gift of Listening, God is There in Tough Times, The Practice of Godliness, The Pursuit of Holiness , Biblical Directionism, Men, Women's, and Relationship Counseling, A Woman After God's Own Heart , A Promise Kept , At the Altar of Sexual Idolatry, The Complete Husband, Finishing Strong, Point Man, I Kissed Dating Goodbye, Emotion Healing and Recovery, From Forgiven to Forgiving, The Heart of Anger, Inside Out, Leaving Yesterday Behind, Love to Eat, Hate to Eat, No More Hurting: Life Beyond Sexual Abuse, Through Tears to Triumph, The Walk of Repentance
- Click OK
- Click Close
Now this collection will be available in the In drop down list on the Search dialogs as well as the Topic and Reference Browsers.
Some of the books like Competent to Counsel, The Christian Counselor's Manual, and A Theology of Christian Counseling by Jay Adams are topically indexed so be sure to use the Topic Browser to locate information in them.
For example, in the Topic Browser set the In drop down list to this collection and type forgive in the Find box.
Click Search and watch the results pour in.
Many of the books are not topically indexed so you’ll need to use the Basic Search dialog to locate words and phrases in them.
Open Basic Search from the Search menu.
Set In to this collection.
Type addiction or "eating disorder" in the Search box and see what happens.
Always remember you can use the Reference Browser to find Bible verses in any book or collection.
For your convenience I have created the Counseling Books Search Collection for you. You can download it by Right Clicking on this link and selecting Save (Link As or Target As).
Make sure to download it to My Documents | Libronix DLS | Collections.
If you like the ease of adding this collection you’ll love the Quick Files CD.
On this CD I have created dozens of collections for you.
Loading these collections will save you hours of work creating them on your own.
Make sure to check out Quick Files at our website.

♦ Camp Logos II in Bellingham
We have just placed Camp Logos II in Bellingham, WA on the calendar.
That’s right, our new seminar is coming to the Logos headquarters for the first National Camp Logos II, August 27-28, at Bellingham Covenant Church.
If you’re not familiar with this new seminar here’s a brief overview.
On Day 1 we focus on individual books.
You’ll learn to examine each book in your library and decide if it needs to be in a Collection, Parallel Resource Association (PRA), Serial Resource Association (SRA) or a KeyLinked list.
You’ll then learn how to access the books you need right from the Bible without taking the time to go to My Library or generating a report.
At the end of Day 1 you’ll know how to customize your system for maximize in depth Bible study without spending lot of time looking for the books you need.
On Day 2 we’ll examine additional features we don’t have time for in Camp Logos like syntactical data bases, power note taking, visual filters, numerous shortcuts for word processors (including getting those pesky fonts to stay the way you want when you copy from Libronix), word lists from a book of the Bible and a lot more.
Please check out complete details including prerequisites for attendance at our website.
The cost for Bellingham Camp Logos II is $225 which includes great continental breakfasts and bountiful lunches during both days of training.
Of course, as always in Bellingham, the Logos leadership will be there for Q and A sessions as well as sneak peaks into future Libronix features.
