♦ Find and Visual Markup

One of the most practical and popular Libronix features is the Visual Markup system which allows you to mark your e-books just like you do your print books. A widely used Visual Markup palette is the Precept Inductive Bible Study containing many of the styles used by popular teacher Kay Arthur. I have been asked repeatedly if the Visual Markup system automatically marks all the words or phrases you’re looking for. The answer is no. The system just provides you with the tools to mark your own resources.

I do, however, want to pass along a little trick that quickly locates and selects words or phrases for you so you can mark them yourself.

Let’s say you're studying John 15:1-8 and you want to mark each time the word fruit occurs. Here’s what you do:

  • Open your Bible to John 15
  • Choose Edit | Find (or press Ctrl + F)
  • The Find box opens at the bottom of your Bible
  • Type fruit in the Find box
  • The first occurrence of fruit is automatically selected
  • Choose View | Visual Markup Styles
  • Select a Palette from the drop down list (for example: Highlighter Pens)
  • Select a Style from the display list (for example: Purple)
  • The first occurrence of fruit in John 15 is now highlighted in purple
  • Click Find Next in the Find box which selects the next occurrence of fruit
  • Press Ctrl + K which is the shortcut to apply the last used Markup Style which in this case is the purple highlighter pen
  • Repeat the previous two steps to work your way through the passage highlighting all occurrences of fruit in purple

You can also type phrases in the Find box. For example, while you’re still in John 15, type in me (without quotation marks) in the box and see what happens.

♦ Remove Formatting in Notes

Sometimes when you’re working in a Note File a particular format gets “stuck”. For example, if you type a Bible reference in the annotation area of the note file and then click the Tag References as Hyperlinks icon on the Formatting Toolbar the reference is now hyperlinked with blue text. If you start typing after the reference, sometimes all of the text will be in blue. The format is “stuck”. Here’s how to “unstick” it:

  • Select (highlight) the text you want to change
  • Click the Remove Formatting icon on the Formatting Toolbar (it’s the abc icon)
  • Your selected text is now just basic text with no formatting applied
♦ Bible Review in My Library

In addition to numerous books, Logos also makes available various magazines in the Libronix format. One such magazine is Bible Review from the Biblical Archaeology Society. This periodical contains “biblical insights and exquisite art”.

If you choose to purchase it, please remember this helpful hint. After you install the magazine and go to My Library to open it, type BR in the Find box. This is the name that appears on the cover of the magazine. If you type Bible Review you will not find it. Just type BR and it displays for you.

For your convenience I have created the Bible Review Magazine Search Collection for you. You can download it by RIGHT clicking on this link and selecting Save (Link As or Target As). Make sure to download it to My Documents | Libronix DLS | Collections.

Now when you go to a search dialog select this collection in the In box to search just this periodical.

If you like the ease of adding this collection you’ll love the Quick Files CD. On this CD I have created dozens of collections for you. Loading these collections will save you hours of work creating them on your own. Make sure to check out Quick Files at our website.

♦ Camp Logos II in Bellingham

Our new Camp Logos II seminar is coming to the Logos headquarters for the first National Camp Logos II, August 27-28, at Bellingham Covenant Church.

If you’re not familiar with this new seminar here’s a brief overview. On Day 1 we focus on individual books. You’ll learn to examine each book in your library and decide if it needs to be in a Collection, Parallel Resource Association (PRA), Serial Resource Association (SRA) or a KeyLinked list. You’ll then learn how to access the books you need right from the Bible without taking the time to go to My Library or generating a report. At the end of Day 1 you’ll know how to customize your system for maximize in depth Bible study without spending lot of time looking for the books you need.

On Day 2 we’ll examine additional features we don’t have time for in Camp Logos like syntactical data bases, power note taking, visual filters, numerous shortcuts for word processors (including getting those pesky fonts to stay the way you want when you copy from Libronix), word lists from a book of the Bible and a lot more.

Please check out complete details including prerequisites for attendance at our website.

The cost for Bellingham Camp Logos II is $225 which includes great continental breakfasts and bountiful lunches during both days of training.

Of course, as always in Bellingham, the Logos leadership will be there for Q and A sessions as well as sneak peaks into future Libronix features.
