Tip of the Month: Bible Word Study
If you’ve been to Camp Logos before you know I prefer working in “full manual
control” mode as opposed to “auto-pilot” mode.
I personally
study more from
customizing my system rather than just using the automated reports in Libronix.
I know, however, that many people enjoy working with the powerful automation.
One such report is Bible Word Study.
This incredible tool, among other things, combines the KeyLink Summary and the Englishman’s Concordance. In other words, it lists your dictionaries for a Hebrew or Greek word and also tells you every time that root word occurs in Scripture. You can access this report from the right menu as you’re studying in the Reverse Interlinear. So here are a couple of suggestions for using the Bible Word Study Report:
- Right click on a word in the ESV Reverse Interlinear
- From the right menu select Bible Word Study
- When the report opens, click the minus (-) signs next to all of the sections except KeyLinks and Translation. The minus signs now turn to plus (+) signs.
One of the complaints against the Bible Word Study is that it takes too long to complete. Actually the section Grammatical Relationships is performing numerous in depth syntactical searches that require extra time. The minus and plus signs, however, are really pause and resume controls for the various searches in the report. By clicking a minus sign you’re telling Libronix don’t execute the search in this section until I click the plus sign. By pausing the searches you don’t use that often, you’re speeding up the Bible Word Study. The good news is the plus and minus signs stay the way you leave them. You don’t have to click them each time you open the report.
The two sections you use most are KeyLinks and Translations. These sections provide you with definitions of the word and verses where the word occurs. So by right clicking on a word and selecting Bible Word Study you instantly have the definition of the word and all of it occurrences. Pretty cool!
One more suggestion. You’ll notice each time your select Bible Word Study from the right menu you get a new window to open. Here’s how to prevent that.
- Close all of the Bible Word Study windows except one
- Click the Report Target (bull’s eye) icon on the Bible Word Study toolbar
Now when you right click on a word and select Bible Word Study from the right menu the new results go in this same window. New windows do not keep opening.
Book of the Month: Who's Who in Christian History
Do you ever find yourself reading along in a commentary or theology book and the author mentions a person like John Knox or Watchmen Nee.
You think, now I’ve heard of him before.
Who was he? What did he do? When did he live? Chances are, though, you don’t take the time to definitively answer those questions.
You just continue on with your reading.
Logos, however, has a book that is in some of their base collections that answer these questions.
It’s called Who’s Who in Christian History.
This book, published by Tyndale House, contains over 1500 biographical entries covering many of the major players in church history. Here’s one way to use this book to its fullest:
- Choose Tools | Options | KeyLink
- Select KeyLinking on the left
- Select English from the Data Type list
- Select Who’s Who in Christian History from the Default Order list
- Click Promote to move the book to the top box (if you have promoted other books use the Up arrow to make sure Who’s Who is in the top eight)
- Click Close
Now when you’re reading in a book and come to someone’s name, information about that person is just a click away. For example, on page 427 in The Moody Handbook of Theology the author mentions Justin Martyr. Here’s how to discover information about him:
- Select (highlight) the words Justin Martyr
- Right click on the selection
- From the right menu select: Selected Text: Justin Martyr
- On the next menu select your book Who’s Who in Christian History
Instantly you have a brief biographical sketch about this man! I promise you this one simple customization with this book will deepen your study. If you don’t have this book, make sure to order it from Logos.

Cruisin' through the Bible, One Click at a Time
We just completed our 2007 Camp Logos Caribbean Cruise and are now already ready planning for the 2008 Camp Logos Alaskan Cruise. By popular demand we’re returning to this beautiful state by way of the inside passage. You’ll not only have a memorable vacation you’ll receive extended Libronix training from Morris Proctor during our days at sea.
Inductive Bible Study and Camp Logos II Seminars
Please take note that we have two very special seminars coming up:
First, we have an Inductive Bible Study with Libronix on February 5-6 in Salt Lake City at Calvary Chapel of Salt Lake. In this seminar I teach you how to use your Bible software in very systematic way. Rather than just showing you how to use many tools of Libronix, I show you what features and books to use first, then second and so on as we actually study a passage. We only occasionally offer this seminar but people have been requesting it so we want to make it available. Please read more about this exciting training by clicking here.
We also have another Camp Logos II coming up February 21-22 at Henderson Hills Baptist Church in the Oklahoma City area. This seminar takes you beyond Camp Logos I as you learn to customize the organization of your books for maximum benefit. You can literally arrange your library and system in such a way that while you’re studying the Bible whatever type of book you need, commentary, theology, history, or dictionary, it is just a click a way. You don’t have to generate reports or perform searches to find what you need. The flow of your Bible study is not interpreted by stopping to look for books. Camp Logos II is only offered a few times each year. I hope you can join us for this event in the central part of the country. Please read more about this seminar including the prerequisites at our website.
Camp Logos Schedule
Here’s a list of upcoming Camp Logos. The cities with "II" indicate our new Camp Logos II seminar. Please periodically check our website www.mpseminars.com as we continuously add new dates. For your convenience you may register online.
